Czorsztyn and its attractions

Podhale is a diverse land that offers tourists a wide range of attractions. A good place for lovers of active recreation and beautiful monuments is Czorsztyn. The beautiful location on the artificial Czorsztyn Lake and the picturesque surroundings are the town's most important assets. You can practice both water sports and hiking. For those who like close encounters with history, there are picturesque ruins of the castle, which in the history of Poland played an important role. The stronghold built in the fourteenth century had an important task before it. She was to defend the southern borders of Lesser Poland and guard the road running along the Dunajec valley towards Hungary. This castle was probably built in the place of the previous stronghold, which in the 13th century gave shelter to Kinga and Bolesław the Chaste during the dangerous Tartar invasion. In the time of Casimir the Great, the castle was to be transformed into a real stronghold. At that time Czorsztyn became the royal property. Most likely, the construction of the Czorsztyn stronghold was due to the construction of the castle in neighboring Niedzica, which was already outside the borders of the then Polish state. Border Dunajec was not sufficient protection against a possible attack from Hungary, so its strengthening was a necessity associated with care for the security of the state. In the history of Czorsztyn, the castle often changed its owners. One of the most famous was the famous knight Zawisza Czarny, whose heroic feats do not need to be reminded of anyone. In the 17th century, the castle in Czorsztyn was associated with the figure of Alexander Kostka Napierski - the organizer of the peasant uprising in Podhale. Napierski briefly occupied the Czorsztyn stronghold, however, the organization of peasant rebellion issued by his comrades overpowered with his life. Further events, including the Swedish invasion and frequent changes of owners meant that the castle was a ruin. In this form you can watch it today. A ruin on a rocky hill is currently the biggest attraction in the area that tourists like to visit. The hill with the ruins of the castle is also an interesting attraction for those who value beautiful nature. It is worth remembering that this area is under reserve protection and is part of the Pieniny National Park.
